The JLPGA Richard Mille YONEX Ladies 2023 in Asagiri, was held at Asagiri Jamboree Golf Club (6,687 yards/par 72) in Shizuoka. Due to inclement weather and poor course conditions, the tournament was shortened to 27 holes.
Fumika Kawagishi was in 4th place, one stroke behind the leader, on the final day, and make 4 birdies and a "32" (par 36) in the 9-hole final round to bring her total to 9 under par. She then won a playoff with Shuri Sakuma, who was tied for the lead, on the first hole, and won in the ultra-short, 27-hole regular round. It was her second win on tour since the 2017 Munsingwear Ladies Tokai Classic.
The 28-year-old Kawagishi, whose father is Ryoken Kawagishi, a professional men's golfer with six wins on tour, passed the 2016 professional test on her fourth attempt. After her first win in her rookie season, she struggled to produce results. This year, she returned to the seeding after a four-season absence and was in good condition, with six top-10s in 13 matches through the previous week.
The two players who were in contention to win for the third week in a row, Miyu Yamashita and Momoko Osato, were in third place at 8-under. While Yuka Yasuda, Asuka Kashiwabara, and Jiyai Shin (Korea) were in fifth place at 6-under. Chisato Iwai, who played as a hostess pro, was in 12th place at 4-under, along with Sakura Koiwai, Yuri Yoshida and others. Akie Iwai and Serena Aoki, also hostess pros, finished at 3-under 22nd with Momoko Ueda and others.
