The JLPGA KKTCUP VANTELIN LADIES OPEN, was held at KUMAMOTO KUKO COUNTRY CLUB (6,523 yards/par 72) in Kumamoto.
The Iwai Twins' sister Akie Iwai, who started the final day in second place and behind one stroke, took the lead at the 13th and went on to win her long-awaited first Tour title at 7-under par. The twin sisters are the first ever to win the tournament together. And Lala Anai, Mao Nozawa, and Jiyai Shin are one stroke behind at 6-under, tied for second place.
The final day was a patient round of golf. She made birdie at the par-4 6th hole, but bogeyed the 7th and 8th hole, and was unable to reduce after that. Nevertheless, she won the tournament for her first time.
Akie has been attracting attention as the Iwai Twins after passing the June 2021 professional test. However, her younger sister Chihiro won the NEC Karuizawa 72 Golf Tournament last August for the first time. She also won the CAT Ladies 2022 the following week for her second win. So this was a happy first victory for the elder sister, who had been beaten by her younger sister Chihiro.
