The Japan Women’s Open Golf Championship 2022 was held at the Murasaki Country Club Sumire Course (6,839 yards / par 72) in Noda, Chiba.
No one knew who would win until the final hole. The winner was Minami Katsu. Katsu was a 3-under-par total to win by one stroke over Shin Jie and become the third player in history to win back-to-back championships.
Minami Katsu and Miyu Yamashita started the day tied for third place, three stroke behind. Katsu made five birdies, including three in a row in the front nine. And Yamashita also made three under par, including a shot-in eagle on the 9th hole. On the other hand, Ji-Yai Shin, who was in the final group, struggled with short putts but made 2-under par in the front nine. Yuri Yoshida also finished the front nine for 1-under par. Ji-Yai Shin, Katsu, and Yamashita were tied for the lead at 4-under par, with Yoshida one stroke behind. The match went on to the back nine.
In the back nine, while the top players' scores were stagnant, Katsu made a birdie at the 17th and holed out for a 68 with 6 birdies and 2 bogeys for the day. She was now the tournament leader at 3-under par, and she was waiting for. But Ji-Yai Shin and Yoshida, who were in the final group behind Katsu, could not improve their scores.
