The JLPGA Sumitomo Life Vitality Ladies Tokai Classic, was held at Shin Minami Aichi Country Club Mihama Course (6,534 yards/par 72) in Aichi.
Akie Iwai, who started the final day as the sole leader, finished with four birdies and one double bogey for a "70" and her second win on the tour with a total of 15-under. Sakura Koiwai was in second place at 14-under, Yuna Nishimura, Mao Saigo, Ritsuko Ryu, and Min-Young Lee (Korea) tied for third at 12-under, and last year's winner Amiyu Ozeki, Nana Suganuma, Yumiko Yoshida, Mio Kotaki, Ayako Kimura, Misaki Miyazawa, and Karen Tsuruoka were in a tie for seventh at 11-under.
The moment Akie Iwai made the winning putt of 10 cm on the final 18th, she looked up to the sky and pumped both fists in the air. She had finished second five times after her first win, including three playoff losses. She looked back, "I was full of anxiety. I even thought I might not get a second win again."
However, she also grew because she kept losing. She was four strokes out of second place going into the par-4 14th hole. However, she made a double bogey on that hole. Her tee shot went in a bunker on the right. On the second shot, she aimed for the pin 106 yards away with a PW, but her ball went over the green and OB. However, she was not fazed at all. She changed her mind that she could make it, and carried her tee shot on the 191-yard par 3 16th hole to about 10 cm close to the pin with a 5U. She then made a birdie to pull away from Koiwai and win the tournament.
