The Sansan KBC Augusta Golf Tournament was held at the “Keya Golf Club” (7,191 yards / par 72) in Itoshima, Fukuoka.
Tour rookie 22-year-old Riki Kawamoto, who started the final round day in second place one stroke behind, carded five birdies and three bogeys for a round of 70 and a 16 under par total for the come-from-behind victory. The victory came with a birdie putt on the final 18th hole.
Kawamoto is the younger brother of one-time Tour winner Yui Kawamoto, a professional women's golfer. This is the fourth pair in history to win the tournament as siblings across the domestic men's and women's tours. Kawamoto placed fifth in the "Japan Open Golf Championship" as an amateur in 2020 when he was a student at Nippon Sport Science University. He also won the lower Abema Tour "TI Challenge in Tojo-no-mori" as an amateur in September 2021.
On the birdie-required final 18th hole, he flinched for a moment thinking about a mistake left of the tee shot, but he kept his driver shot in the center of the fairway, saying, "I was not afraid and tried my best." His second shot carried the ball into the rough on the right, but he made the green on with his third shot and made birdie with one putt. "I was confident that if I made a good tee shot on the 18th hole, I could win the tournament," he recalled of the shot that gave him a chance to win.
