[JLPGA] Game Result : JLPGA RKB x Mitsui Matsushima Ladies (12th Apr – 14th Apr)

The JLPGA RKB x Mitsui Matsushima Ladies, was held at Fukuoka Country Club Wajiro Course (6,299 yards/par 72) in Fukuoka.

Chisato Iwai, who started tie for 7th place, 4 stroke behind the leader on the final day, won the tournament from behind. It was her first win of the season and her third win on the JLPGA Tour. The match was a playoff between Miyu Yamashita and her older sister Akie Iwai, who were tied at 11-under. On the second hole of the playoff, Chisato Iwai made a birdie to win the close game.

Akie, the older sister of the Iwai twins, who had tied for the lead in the qualifying rounds prior to the previous day, had two bogeys on the back nine and holed out for the final round with a three-birdie, two-bogey total 71 to reduce her score by only one. On the other hand, her younger sister Chisato, who started the tournament tied for 7th, reduced her score significantly with four-birdie in the front nine and three-birdie in the back nine. Miyu Yamashita, the earned prize money queen of the year for the 2022 season, also made six-birdie. In the end, Yamashita and the Iwai sisters were tied for the lead at 11-under. As a result, it went to playoff for a three-player.

The shot that was her sister's idea was the difference in the match. The second hole of a playoff on the 18th hole, a par 5 that was continued to use for playoff. Chisato Iwai and her sister Akie's tee shots were lined up and stopped on the right side of the fairway. Then came the second shot. Akie shot first with her driver directly from the fairway. Seeing that her ball went to the front of the green, Chisato changed her mind, saying, "At first I was thinking of shotting it with a 3W." She too chose driver for her second shot, and her ball flew closer to the green than her sister, 2.5 yards from the pin. From there, she used a 58-degree wedge to shoot, and the ball stopped 1.5 meters in front of the pin. And she won the tournament.
