The JGTO 88th Kansai open golf championship 2023, was held at Izumigaoka Country Club (7,051 yards/par 71) in Osaka.
Taiga Semikawa, who started final day on leader, made a five-birdie, one-bogey "67" to bring his total to 17-under for his first win since turning pro. This was his third win on the tour following the "Panasonic Open" in September last year and the "Japan Open," a major in Japan, in October of the same year, which he won as an amateur. Takahiro Hataji was in second place at 13-under, four stroke behind. Kosuke Suzuki and Tsubasa Ukita followed in third place at 12-under. Both of them were making their tour debuts, and Suzuki achieved a ACE on the 3rd hole on the final day.
In his victory interview, he said, "I was already about to cry a lot after I finished hitting the 18th tee shot. (Last November, when he made high score on the final day after starting in the lead.) I had a bad image that I would cry in frustration like I did at Mitsui Sumitomo VISA, but I am really happy to have won," he said, occasionally holding his eyes as his joy overflowed.
